Duio – Fisterra Lighthouse (20 km hike)

By now, most of us are aware that the Way of Saint James actually ends in Fisterra (Finis Terrae, World’s End). Indeed, it was the quest for the Ara Solis (the Altar of the Sun). A journey to the harbour from where you would take the stone boat that would carry you to the other world, located at the precise place were the setting sun meets the Atlantic Ocean. Wealthy people would find it convenient to do the trip while they were still alive, for souls are blind. Should you be a knight, you may prefer to follow the lunar cycle and pilgrimage to Santo André de Teixido instead. Now, if you are (deserving) royalty, you do not need to worry as Epona may come to fetch you personally riding her white horse.
