At the edge of the National Park Hunsr\u00fcck-Hochwald, we will discover the highest mountain within an one hour-drive range from Luxembourg city, the Erbeskopf (816 m). Likely, also the nearest ski station. Nothing spectacular but it will be a nice hike almost entirely through the forest.<\/p>\n
To put things in perspective, the highest point in Luxembourg, the Kneiff (560 m), is also one hour drive from the capital and it does not look like a mountain at all.<\/p>\n
To find another mountain as tall as the Erbeskopf we would have to go to the Vosges and add, at the very least, 40 extra minutes, each way, to our trip.<\/p>\n
The first half is all up, but it is an ascension of merely 400 m over 10 km. It should not kill us. The good news is that the second half is almost entirely down.
